چکیده

In this paper, the physiography, geomorphological features, and sedimentary bedforms of offshore Egadi Islands (Italy) have been illustrated mapped through an integrated analysis high-resolution bathymetric, seismo-acoustic, sedimentological data. The study area is characterized by a wide, up to 25 km, continental shelf which separated NNW-trending linear incision, Marettimo Channel, along several erosional depositional features detected mapped. Sedimentary prograding wedges were at water depths between 100–125 m margin, accumulated during sea-level fall lowstand stages last glacio-eustatic cycle (post- MIS 5.5). This slope breaks defining scarps across shelf, interpreted as coastal cliffs that originated post-LGM eustatic rise. Several fields different types bedforms, including 2-D 3-D hydraulic dunes sorted found providing evidence high hydrodynamic regime affecting seafloor. Further on, recognized erosive related bottom currents (contourites) in Channel. These findings provide better understanding morpho-sedimentary evolution latest Quaternary. Moreover, they offer essential scientific support for effectively managing most valuable priority habitats conservation, such Posidonia oceanica meadow coralline algae bioconstructions (Coralligenous habitat).

Sedimentary facies and foraminiferal assemblages from [i]Posidonia oceanica[i] meadows of western Mediterranean Sea

Sedimentary facies and foraminiferal assemblages of sediments sampled into seven Posidonia oceanica meadows from Western Mediterranean Sea were investigated. Six sampling sites are localised in Italy (Maratea, Ponza Island, Santa Marinella, Giglio Island, Osalla and Alghero), and one in France (Argentella, Crovani Bay, Corsica). The role of P. oceanica meadows in the sedimentary processes was i...

Trapped motion around the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea

Observations in the region of the Pribilof Islands and Canyon (PIC) reveal a clockwise circulation around the group of islands and around each of the two largest islands, St. Paul and St. George. Six current meters deployed around St. Paul Island revealed a steady clockwise flow around the island, which was strongest south of the island and weakest to the east. We use a high-resolution tidal mo...

Neustonic microplastic and zooplankton in the North Western Mediterranean Sea.

Neustonic microplastic and zooplankton abundance was determined in the North Western Mediterranean Sea during a summer cruise between July 9th and August 6th 2010, with a break between July 22 th and 25th due to a strong wind event. Ninety percent of the 40 stations contained microplastic particles (size 0.3-5mm) of various compositions: e.g., filaments, polystyrene, thin plastic films. An aver...

Food patterns and Mediterranean diet in western and eastern Mediterranean islands.

OBJECTIVE To assess current Mediterranean dietary patterns (MDP) in the western and eastern Mediterranean, i.e. in Balearic islanders (BI) and Greek islanders (GI). SUBJECTS AND METHODS Dietary patterns were assessed using FFQ on a representative sample (n 1200) of the BI and GI (n 1324) adult population. A Mediterranean Diet Score (MDS) was calculated according to the consumption of nine MDP...
